How to Clean Your Kitchen’s, Exhaust Hood 


A clean hood is a crucial part of any professional kitchen. The hood helps to ventilate the area and remove any smoke, steam, or odors that may be present. Not to mention, a clean hood looks great for customers and inspectors alike. But how does one go about cleaning the hood? Read on to find out. 


Cleaning the Exhaust Hood 

Combine the Ingredients for the Cleaning Solution First, in a bucket, mix together some warm water and liquid degreaser. 


Scrub the interior: Using the solution, scrub the interior of the hood using a cloth, a soft-bristled brush, or a non-abrasive scrub pad. It is imperative that any oil or extra dirt be removed. 


Rinse: To eliminate any residue that may still be present, give the interior of the hood a thorough rinsing with clean water. To ensure that the interior of the hood is dry, you should make use of a fresh towel or cloth. 


Repeat as required Because degreasers tend to accumulate with time, you will need to make sure that you go through this process once every few weeks if you want to keep your hood clean. 


Cleaning the Grease Filters 

Soak in warm, soapy water: Take your grease filters and place them in a sink or basin filled with warm, soapy water. Allow them to soak for 15-20 minutes so that the grease can loosen up. 


Scrub: Using your hands or a non-abrasive scrub pad, scrub the filters until they are visibly clean. If necessary, you can use a toothbrush to get into all of the nooks and crannies. 


Rinse: Thoroughly rinse off the soap and grime from the filters using warm water. Be sure to remove all traces of soap before proceeding to the next step. 


Sanitize: To sanitize the filters and remove any lingering bacteria, soak them in a solution of 1 part vinegar to 5 parts water for 5 minutes. Afterward, rinse them off with clean water and allow them to air dry completely before putting them back in place.
